Research: Improvement of Language in Children with Autism with Combined Donepezil and Choline Treatment

Study conducted by: Lidia V. Gabis, Roten Ben-Hur, Shahar Shefer, Ariela Jokel, Dorit Ben Shalom

A combined treatment of donepezil with choline improved receptive language skills after 12 weeks of treatment, which persisted 6 months after the end of treatment. The main treatment effect occurred only in young children with ASD.

The present study implies that the novel combination of AChE inhibtors, specifically donepezil and choline, has a significant potential of improving language skills in children with ASD. These results should be followed with a larger sample size and for a longer period of follow-up.
